eBook

Taken from the poverty of her parents' home in Portsmouth, Fanny Price is brought up with her rich cousins at Mansfield Park, acutely aware of her humble rank and with her cousin Edmund as her sole ally. During her uncle's absence in Antigua, the Crawford's arrive in the neighbourhood bringing with them the glamour of London life and a reckless taste for flirtation. Mansfield Park is considered Jane Austen's first mature work and, with its quiet heroine and subtle examination of social position and moral integrity, one of her most profound.

Rezension
"Never did any novelist make more use of an impeccable sense of human values."
--Virginia Woolf
Portrait
Born in 1775, Jane Austen published her many novels anonymously. Her work was not widely read until the late nineteenth century, and her fame only continued to grow from there. Known for her wit and sharp insight into social conventions, her novels about love, relationships, and society grow more popular year after year. She has earned her place in history as one of the most cherished writers in English literature.
Kathryn Sutherland is the editor of Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations and Austen-Leigh's Memoir of Jane Austen and Other Family Recollections for Oxford World's Classics. She has published widely on fictional and non-fictional writings of the Scottish Enlightenment and Romantic periods. She is the author of Jane Austen's Textual Lives: From Aeschylus to Bollywood.
Tony Tanner was sometime Fellow of King's College, Cambridge, UK, and Professor of English and American Literature in the Faculty of English at the University of Cambridge, UK.
