... is what, I'd say about the book. I gather my pleasure from the way the story is told. It may be a magical fable with a very nice message, but the manner in which the book has been written, it was completely ruined for me.
I've read four books written by Paulo Coelho... and I am rather unimpressed by his faux simplistic manner of prose, and the same old - same old new-age kitsch he fills all his novels with.
Writer's block? Lack of properly grounded philosophical underpinnings and a shoddy attempt to cover it by repeating oneself to death? Or, just plain pretentiousness? Whatever it is, it really bugged me that I spent money to buy his books.
That said, I'd recommend still recommend THIS book. The story will please people who seek optimism in their bed-time reading. The story - just the story - without all the new-age drivel is indeed very touching.
