That was a twisty one.

A crime in the Australian Outback sounded the perfect mixture to indulge in. Although this is my second book by this author so far, I gave it a try. An opal miner is found crucified down his mine in an outback town. Detective Ivan Lucic and Nell Buchanan take on the case and soon rumours of corruption are piling up making this murder one of the hardest cases to investigate. The plot begins suspenseful and promising, but once the investigation is settled in Finnigans Gap the suspense is lost like it couldn’t stand the heat from that part of Australia. I thought it was more like a back-and-forth case with clues that only led to dusty dead ends. It felt like stalling until the next breeze of wind brought the next clue. I’m glad that this breeze loaded with suspense came all of a sudden and the plot took a rewarding turn. This story keeps resonating even after having read the last sentence. That solution impressed me, because of the unexpected twists, which gave an immense boost to the case. I’m glad to have read through the rather long-winded part, I would have otherwise missed the interesting last part. Maybe this is the author’s style of writing, as I have experienced the same in Scrublands.
