Beschreibung

Read the book before you see the musical, now on the West End!

Dear Evan Hansen,

Today's going to be an amazing day and here's why...

When a letter that was never meant to be seen draws high school senior Evan Hansen into the Murphy family's grief over the loss of their son, he is given the chance of a lifetime: to belong.

He just has to stick to a lie he never meant to tell.

That the notoriously troubled Connor Murphy was his secret best friend.

Suddenly, Evan isn't invisible anymore. And Connor's wealthy parents have taken him in like he was their own, desperate to know more about their enigmatic son from his 'closest friend'.

As Evan gets pulled deeper into their family, he knows that what he's doing may not be right, but if he's helping people, how wrong can it be?

No longer tangled in his once-incapacitating anxiety, this new Evan has a purpose.

He's confident. He's a viral phenomenon. Every day is amazing. But when everything is in danger of unravelling, he comes face to face with his greatest obstacle: himself.

A simple lie leads to complicated truths in this big-hearted coming-of-age story of grief, authenticity and the struggle to belong in an age of instant connectivity and profound isolation.

Evan Hansen does not fit in, his anxiety and awkwardness have made him a nonentity by high school standards. But when a misunderstanding is not resolved, everything changes. Suddenly Evan finds himself in the spotlight for being the dead student's secret best friend and the boy's parents as well as the entire student body are all over him. Even though Evan knows, that it is not right to keep on building on that lie, he actually is helping Connor's parents to get closure. And that surely can not be a bad thing, right? RIGHT? Cards on the table: I might be just a little bit biased. I've listended to the soundtrack of this musical practically non-stop for months on end and therefore knew exactly what to expect from this novel. I love how close the book stays to the original, whilst also adding some background information to it. "Dear Evan Hansen" is about mental health issues, poor decision-making and good intentions, and had me laughing out loud several times, whilst also breaking my heart and reducing me to a puddle of tears. For me, reading this book was quite an unique experience, because the soundtrack would constantly get stuck in my head, but I am convinced that people who aren't familiar with "Dear Evan Hansen" yet, will come to enjoy it as well.
