Beschreibung

Cordelia Carstairs is a Shadowhunter, a warrior trained since childhood to battle demons. When her father is accused of a terrible crime, she and her brother travel to Edwardian London in the hope of preventing the family's ruin. Cordelia's mother wants to marry her off, but Cordelia is determined to be a hero rather than a bride. Soon Cordelia encounters childhood friends James and Lucie Herondale and is drawn into their world of glittering ballrooms, secret assignations and supernatural salons, where vampires and warlocks mingle with mermaids and magicians. All the while, she must hide her secret love for James, who is sworn to marry someone else. But Cordelia's new life is blown apart when a shocking series of demon attacks devastate London. These monsters are nothing like those the Shadowhunters have fought before - these demons walk in daylight, strike down the unwary with incurable poison and seem impossible to kill. London is immediately quarantined. Trapped in the city, Cordelia and her friends discover that their own connection to a dark legacy has gifted them with incredible powers - and force a brutal choice that will reveal the true cruel price of being a hero.

Edwardian Shadowhunters

Birgit Druffel, Thalia-Buchhandlung Wesel

We're going back to our beloved Shadowhunter universe - and Cassandra Clare isn't letting us down. For everyone who has loved The Infernal Devices, this is the series for you! We can read about Tessa, Will and Jem and their children who are now having their own adventures and love lives. Again, Clare's language is beautiful and painting pictures with words. The characters are refreshing and individually interesting. Also, the difficulties our heroes are facing are something new and thrilling - and it's only getting started. Although it may be difficult for readers who haven't read other Shadowhunter books, I loved it very much. It was like coming home.

Finally back at the London Institute!

Jilsann Oleschkowitz, Thalia-Buchhandlung Dresden

A fresh generation of Shadowhunters is thrust upon the reader in the new 'The Last Hours' series. Many of the already beloved characters are to be found again but for the uninitiated reader of Cassandra Clare this story might not be as enjoyable as there is little background information given to the world. At times the characters were tricky to distinguish as they are the children of the former 'The Infernal Devices' generation but the ancestors of the generations to follow ('The Mortal Instruments' & 'The Dark Artifices'). The Herondales are their usual loveable selves and all the debauchery that these teenagers were up to was absolutely delightful. It was clear that this book was only the beginning of a new series and a lot of mysteries first needed to be set in place as well as all the new characters that needed to be introduced. In conclusion, a gripping new story.
