Once upon a time - CInderella was a cyborg!

Vanessa Pludra, Thalia-Buchhandlung Berlin

Remember when you were young and loved to listen to those old fairytales like Cinderella? Now forget all about that and imagine this old classic as a science-fiction novel with cyborgs, androids, people from the moon and new technology! You can’t? Well Marissa Meyer will help you and draw you into this new adaption of the all-time favourite fairy-tale Cinderella. At first I wasn’t really sure what to think about the story. I just love the original and couldn’t really imagine Cinderella alias Cinder as a cyborg. But once you’ve read ‘Cinder’ you’ll never get enough of it! It’s a bewitching, unforgettable story with dramatic twists, just the right amount of humour and of course a little bit of love. I can only recommend ‘Cinder’ for everyone who wants to read something new and refreshing. ‘Cinder’ is now one of my favourite stories!

von einer Kundin/einem Kunden aus Bornheim am 09.02.2016

Many years after the fourth worldwar we follow the main character Linh Cinder through New Bejing where she stumbols upon emperor Kai, when he Needs her assistance to fix his royal android. Fantastic read and I could not put it down. I ordered the second book right after closing this one!

This book is more than an old fairytale retold in a modern way. In this book the author simply took elements from the original story and created a whole new world. Although the world in which Cinder and Kai live is naturally a lot flashier, more futuristic and modern than the world we live in or the world the first Cinderella lived in it seems also a lot darker. Marissa Meyer is also not only very talented in creating new unknown world but also in creating characters. Not only the protagonists are great but also all the minor characters from the fantastic android Iko over the wicked stepmother to the evil queen. The characters draw you in and make you laugh and love and cry and hate with them. "Cinder" is a great book that gives you a even greater time and makes you beg for more which you will get in the book's sequel "Scarlet".
