Book 1 of The White Rabbit Chronicles.

They think their father is crazy for locking every door and every window before sun sets. They mother is used to it though sometimes she disapproves with his strictness. Every evening he is patrolling the house. He makes sure that no "monsters" are able to come into their home. But on Alice's birthday she convinces her parents that they have to visit the school performance of her little sister. They make it to the school without any troubles but when the show is over their father freaks out. Due to a terrible accident that night 16 year old Alice gets torn apart from her family. She is the only survivor of the accident and from now on she has to live with her grandparents. New school. New life. No parents. No Emma. Alice discovers that her father wasn't as crazy as everbody thought he was. The "monsters" that he was seeing weren't just imaginations of an insane person. They are reality and Alice realizes that she has to fight them. Although there weren't a lot of similarities to Alice in Wonderland this book was fantastic. It is full of action. There is also a love story included so it has romantic parts as well. The writing was amazing and I absolutely loved the sarcastic dialogues between Alice and her new friends. Alice grows into a very strong character. From the beginning she is really self confident and when her family dies she doesn't mind anything anymore. Anyone who is near her has to stand her bold comments and only one other character is able to endure her. When Alice discovers what her destiny is she doesn't let anyone harm her or her friends anymore even if it means destroying the ones she loved.
