Beschreibung

Headstrong American heiress Lillian Bowman has come to England to find an aristocratic husband. Unfortunately, no man is strong enough to tame the stubborn beauty's fierce will. Except, perhaps, the powerful and arrogant Earl of Westcliff—a man Lillian despises more than anyone she's ever met.

Marcus, Lord Westcliff, is famous for his icy English reserve and his supreme self-control. But something about the audacious Lillian drives him mad. Whenever they're in the same room, they can't stop themselves from battling furiously to gain the upper hand.

Then one afternoon, a stunningly sensuous encounter changes everything . . . and Lillian discovers that beneath the earl's reserved façade, he is the passionate and tender lover of her dreams. What neither Westcliff nor Lillian suspect, however, is that a sinister conspiracy threatens to destroy any chance of happiness. After a shocking betrayal endangers Lillian's safety—and possibly her life—will Marcus be able to save her before it's too late?

In her Wallflower Quartet Lisa Kleypas tells the stories of four young girls - Annabelle, the American sisters Lillian and Daisy, and Evangeline - all presumed wallflowers, who band together to find a husband. This book is dedicated to the second wallflower, Lillian Bowman, the older daughter of a very rich American merchant, who took his family to England to enable his two daughters to marry into the English nobility to add a title to their money. But Lillian does not really fit into English society. First of all she is no real beauty, at least not at first sight, then there is her behaviour that is not quite fit for an English aristocrat. She is self assured, outspoken, lively and full of strange ideas and will not be subdued by any man. So is it any wonder that Marcus, Lord Westcliff, abhors her at first? But as his business partner's daughter she spends some time on his country estate with her family and somehow he must tolerate her and her strange ways ........ and somehow finds himself more and more drawn to her. But could she really become his wife? Lisa Kleypas always delivers good stories with an interesting plot, amiable and unique characters and here she also adds humor. Absolutely recommendable and worth reading!
