Young, rich and handsome, Dorian Gray seems to have it all. So why do people who were once his friends, leave the room when he enters? Can there really be any truth in the dark tales that are told about him? And just why does he keep his portrait locked away in an attic room?
Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was an Anglo-Irish playwright, novelist, poet, and critic. He is regarded as one of the greatest playwrights of the Victorian Era. In his lifetime he wrote nine plays, one novel, and numerous poems, short stories, and essays. Wilde was a proponent of the Aesthetic movement, which emphasized aesthetic values more than moral or social themes. This doctrine is most clearly summarized in the phrase 'art for art's sake'. Besides literary accomplishments, he is also famous, or perhaps infamous, for his wit, flamboyance, and affairs with men. He was tried and imprisoned for his homosexual relationship (then considered a crime) with the son of an aristocrat. Kevin (Kev) Hopgood started his career in British comics in the mid-eighties, getting his first break at Marvel UK, where he worked on Zoids, Action Force and Doctor Who. Work on 2000AD followed, where he co-created the series Night Zero. In the early 1990s Kev started a three-year stint as the main artist on Iron Man, where he co-created the character War Machine. Kev then took a break from comics, working in computer games as a concept artist and modeller, before returning to comics to work on the Darkblade comic strip for Games Workshop. He now divides his time between comics work and more general children's illustration. He lives in Kent in south-east England with his wife, three children and two cats. Paula Hammond has been in love with books since she was old enough to read them for herself. She had her first piece of work published when she was nine and, to date, has written over thirty fiction and non-fiction books, as well as a wide-range of educational resources. She also writes regular columns and features for a variety of news-stand magazines and journals.
Toll geschrieben, gut zu verstehen und mit einer Menge Aussagen, die zum Nachdenken anregen.
Die Collins Classics Reihe ist sehr zu empfehlen - Klassiker zum kleinen Preis in bester Qualität!
