Germany

Memories of a Nation

Neil Macgregor's unique and bestselling view into Germany's history and collective imagination, now in paperback. Macgregor argues that uniquely for any European country, no coherent, over-arching narrative of Germany's history can be constructed, for in Germany both geography and history have always been unstable. Beginning with the 15th century invention of modern printing by Gutenberg, Macgregor chooses objects and ideas, people and places which show us something of this collective imagination. Allen Lane's biggest hardback book (by turnover) of 2014.
