Stalking Jack the Ripper

Stalking Jack the Ripper 1

Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

The story's shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this dazzling debut from author Kerri Maniscalco impossible to forget.

Portrait
Kerri Maniscalco grew up in a small town just outside of New York City where her love of the arts was fostered from an early age. In her spare time she reads everything she can get her hands on, cooks all kinds of food for her family, and drinks entirely too much tea while discussing life's finer points with her cats.
Stalking Jack the Ripper is her debut novel.

One of my favorite books

I NEED IT! And then, I finally bought it and read it as soon as it arrived. Before I started SJTR I was in a reading slump, but this book totally got me out of that hell. I never actually took notes while reading, but then I read the sentence: "I had no idea my innards were composed of cotton and kittens, while yours were filled with steel and steam-driven parts." And I just had to highlight it with a sticky note. (I have tons of sticky notes in there) There was no boring part at all and I totally fell for Kerri's writing style. Here's a sentence to demonstrate how mesmerizing her writing is: "Little name tags peeked out above the folders like islands breaking through an ocean of ink and paper." I had so many theories and from every theory I had, there were some parts that were true. Let's talk about some of the characters: The protagonist Audrey Rose. I loved her! Even though men didn't think of women being capable of slicing up a corpse, or at least it wasn't "appropriate", she did it because it made her happy...Wow that sounds as if she'd be completely mad. Let's just say she is very interested in forensics. Sounds better, right? She sure is a rose with beautiful petals, but also has thorns. ;) (If you read the book, you'll know what I am talking about) Thomas Cresswell What a wonderful man! Why isn't he real?! He really reminded me of Will (The infernal devices by Cassandra Clare) and Jace (The mortal instruments by Cassandra Clare) but like, a better version of both of them. And last but not least: Liza She is just a side character, but I had to mention her, because: She is just the sweetest person ever! I adored her so much and even though she's cute, Liza is incredibly fierce and independent. Of course there also is Audrey Rose's uncle, father and brother, and while I liked them a lot, they weren't that important to me. (Except for her uncle. He's great.) The book was really interesting and invested me in the mystery of Jack the ripper even more. I am not a huge fan of historical fiction, but because it's set in Victorian time period I adored it. The romance was adorable but I wouldn't say it was that dominant. (But I can't assess that, since I'm all about romance and cheesiness) Also I loved that Kerri described the dresses they were wearing, because I think they are so beautiful. And when I finished the book, the only thing I could think of, was: I NEED THE SEQUEL!! Conclusion A book with a lot of true facts, beautiful writing, a bad-ass protagonist, a book boyfriend-worthy love interest and unsolved history. Mystery, thriller, romance and a brutal serial killer. What'd you like more? A clear 5 out of 5 star read!

Gruesome but incredible!

This is such a dark read that is perfect for a rainy fall day. Mystery, romance, shocking plot twists and characters that you can?t help but love.
