The Hating Game

(4)

'The next Sophie Kinsella' Bustle

*********

Nemesis (n.) 1) An opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome. 2) A person's undoing. 3) Joshua Templeman.

Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman sit across from each other every day . . . and they hate each other.

Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. HATE. Lucy can't understand Joshua's joyless, uptight approach to his job and refusal to smile. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy's overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and desire to be liked.

Now they're up for the same promotion and Lucy, usually a determined people-pleaser, has had enough: it's time to take him down. But as the tension between Lucy and Joshua reaches its boiling point, it's clear that the real battle has only just begun . . .

This bestselling, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy is an unmissable, utterly loveable treat and is perfect for fans of Sophie Kinsella's MY NOT SO PERFECT LIFE or Jo Watson's LOVE TO HATE YOU.

Sally Thorne lives in Canberra, Australia and spends her days writing funding submissions and drafting contracts (yawn!) so it's not surprising that after hours she climbs into colorful fictional worlds of her own creation. In fact, about 50 pages in I even deliberated quitting. I just did not care much for the hating game going on between Lucy and Josh, and the writing felt a bit overdramatic at times. But I'd heard so much praise for this book that I decided to keep going. And now I'm glad I did because shortly after the story started getting good. It all started with paintball day, really. And then the "hating game" turned into the "or something game" which I thoroughly enjoyed. That's when I fell in love with Lucy and Josh and their complicated relationship. Full of complicated, pent-up feelings and all those fears of letting go and being honest with each other. And all that tension between them!!! So basically, rough start and then it got good. If you like your romances complicated and intense and absolutely swoon-worthy then I'd definitely recommend this one!

A bit on the melodramatic side

3,5 stars I loved Lucy and Jushua's little hating games. Their banter was funny, silly and very sitcom-like. But I did grow tired of those two towards the end, though, a bit too much drama.
