„Taschentücher sehr zu empfehlen ...“

Sara Pflanz, Thalia-Buchhandlung Berlin

„Beautifully written!“

Katharina Teister, Thalia-Buchhandlung Iserlohn

It's a book about becoming the person you want to be without fear holding you back.
If you knew today was your last day on this planet of ours, would you be happy with the life you lived?

Such a beautiful book.

Rufus and Mateo live in the not too distant future, in which people get notified when their time is up. When the two teens get their Death Cast Calls they have to decide how and with whom they want to spend their last hours. Both are determined to make their remaining time count and connect via an app for Deckers - the Last Friend App. The idea behind this book intrigued me the instant I first heard about it. What WOULD I do if I was going to die within the next 24 hours? In this novel we follow Rufus and Mateo as they say their goodbyes, reminisce about their far too short lives and try to live their last day to the fullest. It's a heart-breaking story, yet also strangely hopeful and inspiring. You instantly connect with the character and want them to live forever, even though you know that they just won't. Silvera's writing and well-crafted characters make for a bittersweet reading experience. The only little thing I'd have to criticize is the romantic part of the book, which it could have done without, in my opinion. "They Both Die at the End" is a book that will definitely stay with me for a long time and I highly recommend it to teenagers and adults alike.

The opposite of a plot twist

Since the title already gives away the end there is no surprise in that at all. But that's not the point of the book. It's a journey of mourning oneself and finding comfort in a stranger which turns out to be more than a stranger in the end. It broke my heart and filled it with smiles at the same time. A lovely read for everyone.
