THE TOP TEN BESTSELLER

ime is a prison. She is the key. Packed with danger, temptation and desire - a perfect read for fans of The Red Queen.

In the land of Sempera, the rich control everything - even time. Ever since the age of alchemy and sorcery, hours, days and years have been extracted from blood and bound to iron coins. The rich live for centuries; the poor bleed themselves dry.

Jules and her father are behind on their rent and low on hours. To stop him from draining himself to clear their debts, Jules takes a job at Everless, the grand estate of the cruel Gerling family.

There, Jules encounters danger and temptation in the guise of the Gerling heir, Roan, who is soon to be married. But the web of secrets at Everless stretches beyond her desire, and the truths Jules must uncover will change her life for ever ... and possibly the future of time itself.

'Sara Holland is a fierce storyteller. An intoxicating blend of blood, secrets, and haunting mythology, Everless gives new and terrifying meaning to the phrase running out of time.' Stephanie Garber, New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author of Caraval

Cool concept

2,5 stars I didn't like Jules. She didn't make sense because I actually don't know what kind of person she is. There is no real characterization, I couldn't tell you what she likes or doesn't. There is no real characterization, I couldn't tell you what she likes or doesn't. She was annoying, though. Moreover, she is a special snowflake?, a trope which I find unacceptable. The pacing of this book was so slow and nothing really happened, nothing exciting that swept me off my feet. There is a cool plot twist but to be honest, it didn't impress me very much. Also, quite a bit of info dumping. What I did like was the whole time-being-a-currency thing and how throughout the whole book there was this undercurrent mystery feeling to it which bound me to the book. Minimal romance in this book, yay! That mean cliffhanger got to me, though. I am curious how the story will go on.

"Everless" is the first installment of Sara Holland's unique fantasy series for young adults that will leave you wanting for more. In the kingdom of Sempera time is money - extracted from blood, literally. 17-year-old Jules and her father have once been servants at Everless, but long since fallen from grace and into poverty. In order to keep a roof over their heads and her father from draining himself to death, Jules decides to go back to work for the queen, not realizing how dangerous a situation she is getting herself into... I really enjoyed reading "Everless". It is a truly refreshing read, with a great protagonist and a unique alchemical system. This book may not be as action-packed as other series, but Sara Holland builds an intriguing world that captivates and offers an interesting plot that flows nicely. I also appreciate the fact, that despite there being an obvious love interest for the book's protagonist, it's not a romance-centered story at all. Highly recommended!
