´ONE DAY is destined to be a modern classic´ - Daily Mirror

Twenty years, two people, ONE DAY. The multi-million copy bestseller that captures the experiences of a generation.

´I can imagine you at forty,´ she said, a hint of malice in her voice. ´I can picture it right now.´

He smiled without opening his eyes. ´Go on then.´

15th July 1988. Emma and Dexter meet for the first time on the night of their graduation. Tomorrow they must go their separate ways.

So where will they be on this one day next year?

And the year after that? And every year that follows?

Nicholls "One day" is beautiful. A book about love in many forms. Friendship, romance, sexual attraction, parenthood. A great tale that spans 20 years. Funny, romantic, tragic. „You'll laugh, You'll cry...“

...well, I did! The main idea of telling the story of one and the same day in Emma and Dexter's life every year, the 15th of July, starting with their college graduation, makes it a real pageturner. I couldn't put it down. I only wanted to glimpse WHERE they would be in the following year and was hooked into the next chapter. It's funny in the best meaning of what we continentals call "British Humour", dark and ironic, and heartthrobbing though. Great book! ...well, I did! Everybody wrote his or her comments in English, so I´m going to try doing my best in telling it in English as well :). The story is about Dex- a very crazy and-well he is Dexter u can´t describe it u have to hook up a bit with this guy to understand him and actually after this u won´t understand him better ;) Em is a very shy girl with lots of humor. And very many complications (isn´t it like in all love storys u read?) later they get together(-finally). It´s a nice story to read and it´s very "real life alike". By reading this book you´ll see that life is beautiful but on the other hand also unfair and sad...I really had to cry once :,( but u more often have to laugh I promise! :D Read it u won´t regret it!

From that day on they are good friends and have a share in each other’s life. The reader follows both of them through their years – every July 15 up to 2007. How life goes, they’re closer or drifting apart, sad or happy, alone or together. It took me quite some time to get what the beginning of this book was about – at first glance I thought Em and Dex were together and thinking about their future. When I got it that they more or less just met, the story began to make sense. I really love Nicholls’ idea of picking this special day and following his protagonists through the years. When I started reading the book (thanks heavens it was my holidays!) I couldn’t get rid of it – I spent hours after hours lying on the couch or in bed just reading on and on and on. It seemed as if the book would never end – but the amazing thing was: that was great! I didn’t want to get to the last page as that meant that I couldn’t read about their lives any longer. This is the most romantic story I have read in years. Even more, it is the most romantic and the most spellbinding book I have read in years! I will definitely read it again. And again. And again. I’d recommend it to everyone who likes love stories and good books. However, you shouldn’t start reading it when there’s something important to do – you may not be able to put the book down until you’re finished!
