Meine letzte Rezension The Red Winter von Cameron Sullivan
In Sebastian Grave habe ich einen Hauptcharakter gefunden wie ich ihn schon lange nicht mehr lesen durfte, mysteriös sarkastisch und A Little Tortured (tm). Auf der Jagd nach der Bestie wird er heimgesucht von den Geschehnissen von vor 20 Jahren und seinen ganz eigenen Dämonen, von seinem Untermieter Sarmodel mal abgesehen. Die Art und Weise, wie die verschiedenen Erzählstränge mit den Blicken in die Vergangenheit zu Sebastians unglücklichen Liebe zu Antoine verwoben sind ist wirklich gut gelungen und macht es schwer, das Buch wieder aus der Hand zu legen. Dark Fantasy vom Allerfeinsten!

    It's been years since I first got introduced to Stuart's writing, and both Shuggie Bain and Young Mungo captivated me in ways not many other authors could. John of John makes you jump straight into the intricacies of a small Scottish town, following Cal's return to the house of his father to help care for his grandmother. What follows is an at times heartwrenching story about what it means to navigate your own sexuality through catholic guilt, dysfunctional family dynamics and the inability to live up to heteronormative expectations. Each character brings its own facetous personality, and I've thoroughly enjoyed meeting each of them. Just like its predecessors, John of John is a truly extraordinary novel that I cannot recommend enough.

    Durch das große Feuer

    "Durch das Große Feuer" überzeugt durch die einmalige Art und Weise, mit der Alice Winn die Charaktere zum Leben erweckt. Vorallem Gaunt und Ellwood wuchsen mir sofort ans Herz, die unter den Umständen des Ersten Weltkriegs in all seinen Facetten nicht nur um ihr eigenes Leben, sondern auch um ihre Liebe zueinander fürchten müssen. Kleine Details wie Briefe und Zeitungsausschnitte machen diesen Debütroman zu etwas wirklich besonderem.

    Project Hail Mary

    I don't know what I expected going into this book, having never really dabbled much in sci-fi before, but I certainly did not expect to utterly fall in love with it. The more the story progressed the less I could put it down, and particularly the unlikely friendship between Grace and Rocky made me both laugh and cry occasionally. There is just something magical about the feeling of genuine hope during an apocalypse that really makes this novel stand out, underlining its place among the classics of the genre.
