Meine letzte Rezension The Poppy War Collector's Edition von R. F. Kuang
This book blew me away with it's rich and eventful plot and a stunning and well crafted world-building. The book has three parts, and whereas the first one feels like a dark academic YA fantasy, the story quickly develops into a grimdark military war fantasy which is definitely for adults only! I loved the way the author builds up the plot and manipulates the reader's opinion in regard to certain characters. However, Kuang doesn't shy away from depicting brutally honest and graphic war images - this book is not for the faint of heart. Also, this book is pure fantasy - no romance included. I really dived into the plot and enjoyed the book. BUT sometimes I had to step aside for a moment and reflect how I felt about certain aspects.

The Poppy War Collector's Edition

This book blew me away with it's rich and eventful plot and a stunning and well crafted world-building.     The Bone Season

    The Bone Season is the first book in a 5 book series (the sixth one is in the making) and whenever someone asks me for a recommendation, I name this series sooner or later. It is action-packed, full of dystopian and fantastical vibes and political rebellion. The world-building is phenomenal, and I just couldn't stop reading. Samantha Shannon has got me addiccted to her writing for sure.

    The Courting of Bristol Keats

    I certainly fell in love with this book! It has all the fairy tale vibes one could possibly ask for, including the magical ones as well as the darker and more serious ones - connecting folklore and mythical elements with the fictional story. I couldn't stop thinking about this story while reading, and I was totally drawn into the world building and its storyline. Also, for the first time ever, I was so lost between the pages that when I turned the final page, I fully expected the story to go on for at least a couple of pages, but I was already met with the acknowledgements. I need book two, like, now.

    A Language of Dragons

    Wow. This book was an absolute joy to read! I was drawn into the story immediately and couldn't stop reading (and I didn't want to). The world-building as well as the way the art of langauges and translation is being incorporated into the storyline is phenomenal and then there are dragons - so naturally, this book is a masterpiece. Everyone who loved Babel by R.F. Kuang and who wants to have great fantastical story setting will hopefully love this book as much as I did.

    Babel

    While reading babel, I honestly felt like a literature pro - the author manages to infuse her knowlegde about languages and translation quietly into the story, and consequently one absorbs it through the plot. That, as well as Chinese history is being woven together into an epic story in which the art of translation becomes a powerful tool in a war between countries. Also, the magic system in this book merely accompanies the plot and is refreshingly subtle. Here's a hint: Do read the footnotes as well!

    If We Were Villains. Illustrated Edition

    Whenever I'm asked about a good dark academia book, I always think about this one. The way that Shakespeare and his influence are woven into the story-line, as well as how the acting studies are being described, builds up a great academic story setting that goes along beautifully with the actual plot. In this case, I even enjoyed being manipulated into how I perceive certain characters and the way the author plays with that perception. Plot twists and turns added to that great reading experience as well. This book will always be one of my favourites.

    Sword Catcher

    I got the most perfect medieval fantasy vibes from reading this book ( and the secone one, too!). I loved the characters, especially the female main character, as well as the back story and magical concept of the fictional kingdom. I was totally drawn to the plot and enjoyed every second of reading.

    The Games Gods Play

    A magical tournament in which the gods choose humans in their stead to compete against each other, and which will ultimately decide the next king of the gods, is the setting in this epic fantasy. I loved reading this story and following along Lyra, the female main character, as she navigates through the tournament and makes enemies and some unlikely allies as well. And then there's Hades, God of Death... what can I say, I quite changes my opinion about him while reading this... and you probably will as well :)

    The Bridge Kingdom

    This six-book-fantasy series basically consists of three duologies that all wove together to create the main storyline and plot. The books are filled with political intrigue, morals, enemies-to-lovers and adventures that cross countries. I was absolutly lost in the story and always loved to pick up the next book. The fantasy vibes I got while reading were perfect for me. Here's a small overview to make things easier: The Bridge Kindom & The Traitor Queen: Lara's and Aren's storyline The Inadequate Heir & The Endless War: Zarrah's and Keris's storyline The Twisted Throne & (so far) untitled book 6: Ahnna's and James's storyline Happy reading!

    The Serpent & the Wings of Night

    This book (and its successor) had me getting lost within the pages from the beginning. I enjoyed everything about this book: the characters, the world-building, the magic system and the plot. If you like a good vampiric fantasy mixed with action, spice and emotions, this one is for you.
