Meine letzte Rezension Dykette von Jenny Fran Davis
This book was deliciously weird. At the start, every character, their lives, and their actions felt so close to realistic, but not quite. (Reality for queer 30-somethings in the big city, that is.) Then, as the story went on, the plot just strayed further and further into the absurd. Without giving too much away, this novel is exactly what is promised on the cover: A biting gay millenial comedy of manners.

    The Safekeep

'The Safekeep' is one of the best debuts of 2024. With literary force and beautiful language, Van Der Wouden tells a story of legacy, priviledge, loss, trust and palpable desire. Must-Read!!

    Detransition, Baby

Reading the blurb for this book left me a little intimidated... The plot seemed pretty complicated and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to follow. But that initial fear blew over almost immediately once I started reading. The story is (as per the name of my review) beatifully crafted, and really takes you by the hand to explain all of the interpersonal dynamics, each character's relationship with their queerness, and their way to coming to terms with it. I considered myself educated on topics of queerness and trans* identites before reading 'detransition, baby', but learned so much from it that I didn't even know i had to learn. Not only the very underrepresented topic of detransitioning is depicted masterfully in this story, but so much more, such as female bonds, platonic/romantic love, pregnancy and all the difficult emotions that accompany it. And even this doesn't even cover half of the topics that peters manages to weave into this story in such a delicate way. This book truly has it all. An absolute MUST read!

    Open Water

This book feels like a hot summer day in a stuffy crowded city. Caleb Azumah Nelson is a poet in the truest form, there is not one sentence in this book that isn't a work of art. This short book carries so much impact, both in terms of content as well as language. A truly astonishing debut novella.

    The Trio

'The Trio' is 'Challengers' and 'Normal People's swedish lovechild, and it has inherited all the best qualities from its parents. You will find 'Normal People's melancholic mood, delicate will-they-won't-they relationship and philosophically motivated class-commentary, as well as 'Challengers' intricately crafted throuple dynamic, and depiction of the blurry lines between platonic and romantic love. A perfect read for the average melancholic european Uni student.

Basically, goth lesbians fight bones in a castle in outer space. Safe to say I loved this book. I will say though that it took me a while to fully get into it. As a pretty inexperienced fantasy reader, the worldbuilding was a little difficult for me to understand, and I sometimes found myself a little lost with the plot. About 2/3 through the book is when it really picked up for me, and then I absolutely devoured it. The writing, the characters, the fight scenes, and the dialogue were all a 10/10 for me. Will be getting part two of this series as soon as possible.

Unbedingt lesenswert!

Even though I'm not usually big into Sci-Fi, I loved this book!! I picked this up as a light read that I could really get lost in, and it was just that. I quickly became invested in Eris and Sona's story, as well as the found-family dynamics, and I really loved (almost) every character. The chapters are dual-perspective which I also really liked, and I think it made Eris and Sona's enemies-to lovers slowburn even better. If you're looking for an intricately crafted Sci-Fi world this might not be the book for you, as the story is definetly more driven by the personal relations of the characters than the Sci-Fi aspect. But for anyone looking for a fun sapphic easy-to-read Sci-Fi story that gets you really invested, this book is perfect!!
