Meine letzte Rezension Red Rising 1 von Pierce Brown
This one was for way too long on my tbr and honestly, that was a mistake. Brown plays with his established hierarchical society and portrays end-stage capitalism with one particular ressource available in abundace: human life. Starting this sci-fi voyage was a treat and with its cliffhanger I immediatly reached for the second book.

    Martyr!

    After the first two pages I was done for. Kaveh Akbar's debut novel is straightforward and hauntingly honest in its characters' depiction, while always taking its time to expertly paint the scenes before moving on. Following protagonist Cyrus' life, we flip through his chapters of migration, war, family trauma and, combining it all, the meaning of death. Considering that Akbar is a poet at heart, his writing never failed to astonish me - the amount of sticky notes I used lets the pages disappear. It is a book I will never forget and thoroughly devoured.

    If We Were Villains

    Complex characters, queer romance, the decent into madness, Shakespeare and a murder? What a devilishly perfect combination. Rio's creativity and thrilling writing style won't let you go even after you finished the whole book. The emotions ran high and I was glued to the spot until I finished it. I will never stop recommending it!
