This was such a good book! Ariel Lawhon did her research, and she did it well. "The Pirate Queen" transports us back to 16th century Ireland and the days of piracy. Ath the helm: Gráinne Ní Mháille, legendary pirate queen. A fascinating woman who led a fascinating life beyond the limits of what womanhood was supposed to look like in her time. Erased from contemporary written sources, she lives on in folklore. This novel puts her in the spotlight again. A must-read!
