Meine letzte RezensionHeart the Lovervon Lily King
Shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction!
We follow our unnamed female protagonist and the two guys, Sam and Yash. The three find themselves caught in a complicated love triangle, one that will occupy their minds and bodies for decades. The novel is told in three parts. The first part follows their college years and the rollercoaster of their relationship. Then, we follow the protagonists years later as they have children and families. Finally, there is a chance to say what needs to be said.
This novel is beautifully written. It’s clear, yet deeply emotional. It shows feelings, emotions, and dynamics that we all know very well and that feel incredibly realistic. This story destroyed me but, at the same time, healed me. It has no happy ending in the usual way, but an ending that gives the characters the closure they need and deserve.
All of them have their many flaws, but they are flaws that are very human and also age appropriate for the times in which they make their mistakes. I can’t say much more without taking too much away from the story, but this story is not something completely new, nor is the concept. Still, this story moves you and touches something deep inside. I very much understand why it was shortlisted, and in my opinion, it very much deserves the hype.
I think people who enjoy Sally Rooney and Alison Espach will very much enjoy this novel. Highly recommend for days when you feel like you need to feel something very deeply.
