While the story is powerfully and vividly written, the language can feel slightly stilted at times, which may disrupt the flow for some readers. Nonetheless, its rich cultural context and timeless themes make it a must-read for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of identity and change.

This is a masterpiece in English literature!!! A milestone in literature overall! He showed how violent colonialism was and that pre colonial Nigeria had sophisticated social systems perhaps more sophisticated and advanced than Western democracy.

Achebe's novel shows an African community, the Igbo people, before Europeans arrived and changed their way of lives forever. There's no doubt that Achebe is a masterful storyteller and I love his writing style. However, the story is not always an gripping. I loved learning about a culture I was ignorant about and Achebe perfectly shows how both Igbo and Europeans have patriarchal structures and rampant misogyny, I had difficulty with the main protagonist's perspective. He could be very violent and abusive and that can get tiring after a while. Some scenes also go nowhere or are a little longer that I would've wanted but that is a personal and highly subjective preference so I can't fault it for that. Nonetheless, the novel is a deserved classic of literature and a great starting point for people who haven't read any African literature.
