    Review - Escape in New York (review by D.C.)

    The novel Escape in New York was written by Richard Musman and it is about the drug-dealing-scene and crime in New York City. Moreover, the book tells an exciting but illogicol story of a boy who tries to defeat a drug dealer. I kinda enjoyed reading this book because I was able to gain a lot of knowledge about crime in New York, especially about the drug business. Also, it was interesting to find out some information about the poor districts and the youths selling drugs. Furthermore, the novel shows the big contrast between normal workers and drug dealers. The main character is a normal boy who lives at his aunt's house. He's brave and dumb at the same time. Another aspect that I don't like is the illogical plot. An example for this is the part where a boy wins the fight versus a man who is armed with a knife only because the boy is good at karate. Moreover, an aspect that I have to mention is that the vocabulary items are listed at the bottom of each page. It was helpful and the language was easy to understand, which is another positive aspect. The novel gives great insight into the structure of the drug business. For example, there are kids selling drugs who are driven in an expensive car. All things considered, I would recommend reading this book, but not for the 8th grade because some parts of the book were very illogical. It would be good for a lower grade. Nevertheless, it was exciting to read. 3,5/5 Stars.
