Hermann Michael Niemann received his doctorate in theology 1980 (Rostock University); Habilitation 1991; he taught at the University of Hamburg (1993) and in Jerusalem (2000, 2002); 1993 Full Professor for Old Testament and Biblical Archaeology at Rostock University; since 2000 member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Literature (Helsinki); since 2009 member of the Evangelische Forschungsakademie (Hannover); main fields of research: history of Ancient Israel; archaeological excavations and surveys in Israel and Turkey. Matthias Augustin received his doctorates in theology in 1980 (Heidelberg University) and in philosophy in 1985 (Osnabrück University); 1989 Habilitation at Rostock University; since 1998 Associate Professor for Old Testament and Jewish Studies at Rostock University. Matthias Augustin wurde 1980 in Heidelberg zum Dr. theol. und 1985 in Osnabrück zum Dr. phil. promoviert; Habilitation 1989 in Rostock; er lehrt dort seit 1992, seit 1998 als außerplanmäßiger Professor Altes Testament und Jüdische Studien.
