Embelin is a large scandent shrub, distributed throughout India and commonly known as false black pepper or Vidanga. It is also a critically endangered species of conservation importance in India. Embelin (2,5-dihydroxy-3-undecyl-1,4-benzoquinone), a major phenolic compound found in the fruits of Embelia ribes Burm belonging to family Myrsinaceae is the most correlated species of Vidanga.
