I was very dissapointed

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

I heard so many good Things about this book so I had to read it. Big mistake! The first Thing I Noticed the autor didn't use any punctuation in direct speech, which was really confusing honestly. Also after every chapter there was a confusing time switch and the Story continues a few months later mostly at the times were it started to get interesting. The Story is really slow burn and I continued reading because I hoped it will be a satisfying ending, but it wasn't. For me personaly the Story wasn't really interesting because there were so many side tropes and everything felt like it was not necessary for the storyline like there were soooo many new characters introduced just to never read about them ever again after the chapter was over. I tought it would take like 1 or 2 weeks to finish this book but because it felt like torture opening it again it took one month to finish it finally. If you like any of the mentioned characteristics go ahead and buy it but I really regreted spending money on that book.

A Slow-Burning Love Story: Frustrating but Thought-Provoking

Bewertung am 22.03.2025

Bewertungsnummer: 2445926

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

It took me much longer than expected to finish this book… Sally Rooney’s “Normal People” follows the complex, often frustrating, and incredibly slow-burning relationship between Marianne and Connell. Honestly, how many times can they break up when they’re not even officially a couple? Their connection is drawn out in such a way that it feels almost absurd. Both Marianne and Connell are compelling characters, and at times, they’re relatable, but by the end, they start to wear on your nerves. The uncertainty they have about their feelings, both for each other and for themselves, is intriguing and understandable at first. But eventually, it just becomes frustrating how they can’t seem to make it work. Their method of communicating (or rather, not communicating), how they truly feel feels bizarre and almost painful to read. In the beginning, they appear to speak openly about their emotions and struggles, but by the end, it feels like they’ve been talking at each other rather than truly communicating. That said, the book does have its strengths. It explores real-life changes, like shifting friendships and family dynamics, which I enjoyed. Though, if you’re looking for a traditional love story, this might not be your cup of tea. While it’s very much about love, it’s more about the kind of love we believe we deserve, (Reference to dPS) and how that perception shapes us - definitely not the sweet romance some might expect. In the end, "Normal People" offers a thought-provoking exploration of love and personal growth, but its slow pace and emotional turbulence may frustrate readers looking for a more straightforward story. While it’s not a typical romance, its deep dive into human connection makes it a worthwhile read for those patient enough to appreciate its complexities.

Normal Relationships between normal people

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Honestly, after reading the book, the title makes so much sense and summarizes the book perfectly already. Marianne doesn't feel normal and she meets Connell who - in spite of seeming pretty normal - also does not feel normal. The two start an unconventional relationship that stretches out into their late twenties and - is in light of everything that can happen in a lifetime - absolutely normal. With all it's beauty, flaws, misunderstandings, frustrating, confusing, revolting, hurtful, joyous and strange moments; Marianne and Connells lives are those of two normal people. And that is exactly what makes this book so incredibly powerful. It doesn't try to portray two misunderstood, mysterious outcasts who go throught this superhuman metamorphosis. It just tells the story of two people that are utterly normal and with that it manages to make every reader feel a little less alone. Truly, a modern classic.

Definetly not normal

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Normal People is a beautifully written exploration of love, friendship, and personal growth. Following Connell and Marianne through high school to university, it captures the raw emotions of youth, insecurity, and connection. The characters are relatable, and the story lingers long after you've finished. A truly moving read.
