An unknown young woman is found dead on a rainy Paris pavement; a wife reports the sudden disappearance of her lawyer husband; and Maigret searches for the secret behind a man's odd behavior in Brussels and subsequent suicide in Bremen. Plus, Maigret travels to the coast to try and prove a village schoolmaster innocent of murder; and a chance encounter with a former classmate leads to a tricky problem for Maigret.
