This book really stuck with me. It broke my heart, and then healed it at the end. We follow Kim and Xander, who used to be childhood friends. One day, out of nowhere, Xander starts giving Kim the cold shoulder. He completely shuts her out and starts treating her with calculated cruelty. In the other books of the Royal Elite Series, I really hated Xander for how he behaved towards Kim. Among other things, that’s why I was so curious to read their book and find out more about Kim and Xander. And as I already mentioned, this book destroyed me. I found their story well-written, emotional, and completely heart-wrenching. This book includes a bully trope, so beware, if that’s not your cup of tea. We also get an explanation for why Xander behaved the way he did, and the reason is really sad. At some points, I had tears in my eyes, because I was so caught up in the book! The character development is written very well, and despite everything, I love Kim and Xander together. Please be aware of the trigger warnings; Kim and Xander both have a lot of issues to carry, especially Kim, who grew up in a toxic household. The book deals a lot with mental health, eating disorders, and self-harm. Still, I really liked this book, and I highly recommend reading it. Deutsch: Auf Xanders und Kims Geschichte habe ich mich schon während Aidens und Elsas Trilogie gefreut. Und das Warten hat sich gelohnt. Dieses Buch ist eine wahre Achterbahn der Gefühle! Mein armes Herz! Es war so voller Emotionen und jeder Menge WTF-Momenten. Rina Kent hat meine Hochachtung, wie einfühlsam und nahbar sie wichtige Themen wie Mental Health, Essstörungen oder Selbstverletzung in die Geschichte verwoben hat. Ich hatte mehr als einmal Tränen in den Augen. Xander und Kim sind für mich der perfekte Beweis, dass Friends-to-Lovers ein absolut liebenswürdiger Trope ist. Große Liebe und Empfehlung! Englisch: I was already looking forward to Xander and Kim's story during Aiden and Elsa's trilogy. And it was worth the wait. This book is a real emotional rollercoaster! My poor heart! It was so full of so many emotions and lots of WTF moments. Rina Kent has my respect for how sensitively and approachably she has integrated important topics such as mental health, eating disorders and self-harm into the story. I had tears in my eyes more than once. Xander and Kim are perfect proof to me that friends-to-lovers is an absolutely endearing trope. Big love and recommendation!
