She's not just good at Harry Potter

Bewertung aus Wien am 03.07.2024

Bewertungsnummer: 2236219

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

The perfect book to keep one entertained during a heat wave. Can't go outside, so the best thing to do is read, read, read. Rowling again proves that she has nothing to prove. The woman can write. Whether about magic or crime, her plots keep one guessing. Her characters gain one's sympathy and even after finishing this lengthy tome, they are still present in one's head as she has drawn them so well and you can't help asking yourself what are they all up to now. When is she coming out with the next Strike novel??? The Hallmarked Man.

Since the release of the first book, I’ve been a fan of Robin Ellacott and Cormoran Strike. Despite being completely different, they work as a perfect team. Together they have handled some hard cases in the past but this new case could be their hardest and most risky investigation ever. They are dealing with a shady organisation and to uncover the truth, both have to take the risk without knowing if the outcome will be to the satisfaction of their client. Somewhere I’ve read that The Running Grave is the last book of the series, therefore I had high expectations concerning a well-rounded conclusion with no open questions. All books in the series have a high amount of pages, this one is no exception maybe even more. That could be the author’s style or another thought maybe that this seventh case is too complex to write in a shorter amount of pages. In any case, this didn’t put me off, I don’t mind holding a large book in my hands, that’s for me how reading should be. It is a complex case, which made it difficult to get into the story, the introduction of all the facts and characters takes up a lot of pages. And just because of this amount of figures appearing throughout I got sometimes confused about keeping all those names apart. For me, the interesting part began when the investigation was in full swing and more clues appeared. Strike’s ways of investigating are well-thought, he never reveals anything until the end. It is undeniably a long story, it took me a long time to finish it and I am not satisfied with the end. Compared to the total length of the book, the conclusion was for me too compressed, not enough to end a series. Therefore I hope that there is more to come and the series hasn’t reached its end.

Strike is magical.

Hallows can be deadly

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Is it a coincidence that Robert Galbraith's seventh book in the #cormoranstrike series plays out in the claustrophobic atmosphere of a seemingly harmless cult? Robin Ellacott has to go undercover in rural Norfolk to find out what happened to Will Edensor and persuade him to rejoin his family. As with j.k. Rowlings #potterseries this volume is probably the size of the Deathly Hallows, and while much useful information is provided on the minutiae of life in a detective agency and every witness' interview is given in full, one less storyline would have hurt nobody. Lenght is strenght hwen Cormoran confronts the churchs' leader at an event and the (verbal) duel between the two is a masterclass in wordistry. One caveat: you learn a lot about cults and their methods and the most harrowing reads are those who give a voice to the victims.
