A lovely und humorous read with a hint of spice

I love to read books situated in regency England and happened to stumble upon this one by chance. First I was a bit reluctant, we all know that the protagonists will end up together despite it all being a farce in the beginning. But after I started reading I could barely set it aside. I love Minerva as a Protagonist. She has high morals and scruples against the plan but she has lived a miserable life for so long that she also knows to take a chance at a little fortune when thus presented. She has her human little faults that make her relatable while still beeing a woman one would like to strife to be. Her love-interest Hugh is also refreshingly human. He has a very nuanced character, despite trying to appear otherwise. And while he does act rather stupid on plenty of occasions, he does have a very good heart, one can't help but forgive him just like Minerva. They compliment each other so well, that I enjoyed their harmonous moments just as much as their banter and even their fullblown arguments. As for the side-characters, I must admit that I loved Hughs mother and her second husband better than Minervas sisters and Hughs best friend. That is not to say, that they are bad characters at all, they just could not compede with the lovely married couple. Everyone is very unique in their personal traits and behaviour and every one of them is a huge gain to the protagonists and their romance. Some of them even get their own book in the series and I am intrigued as to how they will get their own story and happy ending. The style of writing to me was very immersive. The reader gets only the necessary details of descrition to important places or wardrobe and such, the empathis is set more on the characters themselves and their behaviour and insights in their thoughtprocess. The only downfall to the book was its lenght. There are more twists and turns than one expects in a history rom-com and as I said in the beginning, it's very, very hard to set the boook aside once one is immersed in the story. A definite recommendation for everyone that loves historical romcoms and doesn't mind a bit of sexual tension in the bakcground while the story focuses on the characters.
