I don't think I will ever fully recover from this book like I will never be the same. The pain Rebecca has put us through was insane! I'm not recommending this book to anyone unless you wanna cry your eyes out for days!!

I've never read a book from Rebecca Yarros before and therefore had no idea what I've gotten myself into. The characters as well as the scenery are well written and you're within the story right from the start. The story has some twist and turns and has you crying several times. I'ts definitely a must read for all the drama-romance-lovers out there.

A powerful testament to love, loss, and the lengths we go to for the people we care about

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Rebecca Yarros has done it again. Known for her ability to weave heartbreaking stories with unflinching emotional depth, Yarros delivers a masterclass in storytelling with The Last Letter. Having already fallen in love with her writing through Fourth Wing and Variation, I was eager to dive into this one, and let me tell you: it did not disappoint. This book is ultra-sad—in the best way possible. From the very first page, it grabs hold of your heart and doesn’t let go. The plot is a rollercoaster of emotions, and just when you think you’ve caught your breath, Yarros hits you with one of the most unpredictable plot twists I’ve read in a long time. Without spoiling anything, let’s just say that it left me reeling, and yet, it felt like the perfect, devastating choice. Yarros’ writing is as beautiful as ever. There’s something inherently poetic in her prose, especially in the letters that serve as pivotal moments throughout the story. These letters aren’t just plot devices; they’re emotional lifelines that anchor the reader through the storm of grief, love, and loss. Her ability to balance raw emotion with heartfelt tenderness is what makes this book so gripping. The setting—a small town nestled in the mountains—adds to the book’s charm. Telluride, with its tight-knit community and picturesque landscape, becomes as much a character as any of the people in it. The backdrop complements the unfolding drama perfectly, providing both a sense of isolation and warmth, a fitting environment for the emotional rollercoaster that the characters experience. The characters themselves are so real—you’ll find yourself equally invested in each of their journeys. The protagonist, Beckett, is thrust into a situation where the weight of a promise to a dying friend forces him to confront his own demons. And then there’s Ella, the grieving sister who has to shoulder the burden of loss while raising her family. Their interactions are tender, emotional, and completely heart-wrenching. You’ll find yourself rooting for them, crying with them, and just feeling every twist of the story. The emotional intensity of the novel can be overwhelming at times, and while I loved every page, there were moments where I found the weight of it all a bit much. That said, Yarros knows how to turn the dial just right—she knows when to give the reader a moment of respite, but also when to push them into the depths of despair, and I couldn’t put the book down. It’s a page-turner. In the end, The Last Letter is a powerful testament to love, loss, and the lengths we go to for the people we care about. It's the kind of book that stays with you long after you've turned the last page, a beautifully bittersweet story that is, without a doubt, worth every tear, every gasp, every lost hour of sleep. If you haven’t read a Rebecca Yarros book yet, this one is a must-read. Prepare to be swept away by a narrative that is as heartbreaking as it is unforgettable.
