How is Christ proclaimed today? How is his presence experienced? How do the words, actions, and sounds that bear witness to him interrelate? On the occasion of the retirement of the Heidelberg New Testament scholar and professor of practical theology Helmut Schwier, this volume presents interdisciplinary approaches to these questions and thus to a central proprium of Christian theology. Scholars from Germany, South Africa, and the USA approach this topic from the perspectives of homiletics, liturgy, musicology, exegesis, queer theology, religious education, diaconal studies, poimenics, systematic theology, and higher education policy. They show that the question of how to speak about Jesus Christ is an important part of Christian preaching (theory) that goes far beyond the worship service. The articles in this volume explore the implications of this for the church, society, and preaching itself.
