Dr. Ariana M. Nelson is a Professor at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care and is double board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. After graduating from the University of Michigan Medical School, she completed residency and fellowship training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Dr. Nelson's research interests include biomarkers of pain and intoxication, and she has both published and ongoing research studies in artificial intelligence and machine learning. She collaborated with NASA engineers in the development of Earth-independent medical operations as part of the Exploration Medical Integrated Product Team, focusing specifically on leveraging artificial intelligence to create a clinical decision support system for the austere environment of spaceflight. She currently works for Vast Space as the Medical Science Lead in their division of Space Medicine Operations.
