I know there's a lot of criticism of the author and this book BUT this book was a captivating read. I couldn't put it down and am now in search of more books that more accurately represent some of the themes presented in American Dirt.

This book is riddled with racist stereotypes. Instead of this poorly written book written by somebody who is neither an immigrant nor latinx, I'd recommend books by latinx authors and own voices, like: - The Land of Open Graves: Living and Dying on the Migrant Trail - Mean by Gurba - The House of Broken Angels Myriam Gurba has written a fantastic piece, detailling how Cummins not only wrote an awful book in terms of writing skills, but a harmful one, too. There are other books by way more talented authors who actually have something important to say and have lived the experiences.
