Mole, tired of spring cleaning, ventures to the surface to meet his friend Rat by the river. They spend both spring and summer together, having several adventures. One day, they visit Toad Hall, where they discover Toad has become captivated by a passing motorcar. Later, Mole and Rat travel to the Wild Wood to meet Badger, who is wary of having company. Together, they brave a snowstorm and escape danger. Meanwhile, Toad repeatedly gets himself into trouble by stealing cars, wrecking them, and being imprisoned. Each chapter offers a self-contained adventure and is filled with delightful pastoral charm. Disclaimer: This edition preserves the original 1908 text. The term 'gipsy' appears in the historical sense of the time but is now recognized as a derogatory term for the Roma people.
