The mystical novel attempts to transcend the narrow perspective of the self within the confines of Western ontology, striving to reach a more intense and experiential self where knowledge merges with existence, and awareness with cumulative spiritual experience.
Looking at contemporary novels such as those of the Moroccan writer Abdelilah Benarafa, we find modern manifestations of the cogito project. In the mystical novel, the self appears as a transformative and multidimensional entity, acquiring and shaping its consciousness through continuous interaction with memory, religious texts, and a mystical imagination grounded in light and remembrance.
This study aims to offer an in-depth reading of the cogito and the self in the mystical novel. It begins by tracing the philosophical development of the concept of the self, then moves to the narrative structure within the mystical novel, and finally analyzes the texts that embody this poetic-narrative project. The ultimate goal is to deduce the role of the self and the cogito in redefining human consciousness within mystical texts.
