This work aims to provide a comprehensive study of museum exhibition design, planning, and implementation phases. It adopts a museum-centric approach to both the presentation and content. We previously introduced the reader to museum exhibition spaces and their various requirements and characteristics in our book, *Museum Design and Architecture*, published by Al-Arabi Publishing and Distribution in 2023. We hope to complete this section with a third book on temporary exhibition design, to be published following this one. In this work, the author attempts to present a complete picture of museum exhibitions, their philosophy, operational policies, types of exhibitions and their presentation styles, the stages of exhibition creation and implementation, and the teams involved. Particular attention is paid to reviewing the processes of preparing interpretive plans and museum exhibition programs, starting from idea selection and brief preparation, through the comprehensive development of the idea via the development of the exhibition program and interpretive plans, and the selection and classification of exhibits.
The work is divided into eleven chapters, each addressing a key topic in the preparation and creation of museum exhibitions. These chapters cover, in order: accessibility and the philosophy of accessibility through exhibitions; exhibition and accessibility policies; and types of museum exhibitions. The book covers the stages of museum exhibition creation; teamwork; presentation styles; visitor interaction within museum exhibitions; the generation and selection of exhibition ideas; preparing the exhibition brief; and the exhibition's interpretive plan. The author relies on examples, practical models, and illustrative figures throughout the book's chapters to simplify concepts and present a clear, understandable, applicable, and comparable picture for the reader.
This work thus adds a new dimension to the Arabic library of museum studies, serving curators, museum professionals, exhibition specialists, interior designers, educators, as well as researchers, students, and university students in the fields of museum studies, heritage, arts, archaeology, interior design, art and gender education, and heritage in general in the Arab world. In conclusion, we hope that we have succeeded in presenting this work in a way that benefits students of knowledge and that it will be a valuable addition to the Arabic library of museum and heritage studies.
