This book examines additives for lubricating oils used in internal combustion engines to extend their service life. It discusses anti-friction additives, their types and properties. A special type of additive is repair and restoration additives based on natural minerals. The use of such additives enables engines to be repaired without dismantling; in this process, adding these additives to the oil restores the functionality of friction components. The composition and properties of the additives are examined. The nature of the formation of a protective glass-like layer in friction components is described. It is shown that the mineral serpentine - a raw material for the asbestos industry - possesses a unique property. A second factor contributing to the restoration properties is the nanoscale size of the solid particles in the mineral suspension. The technology for preparing a repair additive for oils is described. It is shown that Kazakhstan has natural deposits of serpentine and a facility for its processing. By utilising waste from asbestos production, it is possible to establish a facility for the production of a repair and restoration additive for engine lubrication systems.
