How should Daumier's work be "curated"? Lisa Champion and Marie-Anne Teulat studied every stage of the creation of two exhibitions devoted to the work of Honoré Daumier, the caricaturist, draftsman, engraver, sculptor, and painter. They compared two exhibitions organized in 1999: the Daumier retrospective at the Grand Palais and the exhibition titled "Daumier-Scenes of Life, Lives on Stage," one curated by the RMN-Grand Palais, a national institution, and the other created by the Musée d'art et d'histoire de Saint-Denis, a municipal museum. The two authors interviewed key players involved in every stage of museum curation, from the original concept to public outreach-including the preventive conservation of artifacts, educational programs for all audiences, marketing, and the publication of catalogs. They emphasized the need to establish partnerships, particularly international ones, to enhance the reach of such events and reduce overall costs.
