beautifully heartbreaking

Bewertungsnummer: 1657840

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Heartbreaking yet beautiful story of two refugees. Its a cruel and brutal experience they go through and its even sadder ifvyou realize that this is what most refugees go through. Fleeing from a war they didn't cause and starting a new life they never wanted.

I really liked it but as a syrian from aleppo I think Aleppo was descriped different from the reality. It felt like they are talking about a different Syria. But the journey of Nuri and Afra and the description of the places, especially in Athen were on point and kind of felt familiar for me, even though I had a wayyyy easier experience. I loved how much empathy this story can create and how lovely the author is.

Opens your Eyes

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Nuri and his wife lived happily in Aleppo until the war started and shredded their joy into pieces. They have to flee from their home in hope for a safe future, because staying would more than likely lead to their death. Lefteri describes the circumstances of the way to and in Greece migrants keep up with to flee for a safer live. She internalizes that migrants are people like everyone else, that they had to fear their life and lost more than we could only imagine. Lefteri herself volunteered in Athens for an Unicef supported refugee center, who is suited better and has the ressources to write such a book. A must read book that goes under your skin! Especially in times of need for more humanity.
