Meine letzte Rezension One of the Boys von Victoria Zeller
At it's core, "One of the Boys" is about community. And seeing how the world is treating trans people right now (and has been, historically), community is exactly what we need. Our main character Grace feels alive and her struggles deeply personal. She tries to navigate the world of highschool football without loosing what (or who) is most important to her. And I am rooting for her.

    Somewhere Beyond the Sea

Given that "The House in the Cerulean Sea" is one of my favourite books of all time, I was both overjoyed and a bit nervous, when I found out that there was going to be a sequel. Since I don't want to give too much away, I'm just going to say: I adored this book. Arthur and Linus, as well as the children have secured themselves a permanent spot in my heart. They felt as alive and joyously individual as ever. There are some very serious moments in this book, which were almost painfully relatable, because they directly mirror the reality that a lot of people have to face. That being said: This story is as much about relentless love as it is about fierce defiance and personally, I loved every second of it.

    Don't Let the Forest in

Reading this book felt like having a feverdream and a nightmare at the same time, but either way, I had no desire to wake up. I simply *needed* to know what happend next after every chaper that I finished. I found the writing to be so extremely vivid, that it made my skin crawl and left me with a stale taste in my mouth. It was exactly what I wanted from a horror story like this one. And in the midst of those horrors stood a lovestory, so devastating and so terribly, painfully romantic, that I couldn't tear my eyes away from the pages. This is without a doubt one of my favourite books I've read this year.

You Weren't Meant to Be Human

This book has everything: an autistic, trans main character, body horror and a mysterious entity. Count me in. It's not often that I describe a book as truly horrifying, but this book is absolutely worthy of that word, in my eyes at least. Please be sure to read the trigger warnings.

    The Resurrectionist

I have such a soft spot for historical queer fiction and this book was certainly not an exception. I loved the dark, muddy atmosphere of 19th century Edinburgh and how the characters (ironically) came to life within it. Speaking of, I adored the main character James and his rogue companion Nye. It was refreshing to follow a main character who stands up for himself and the people he loves. There were some romantic moments were I had to pause reading because they were so simple, yet so full of love and desire. If you enjoyed "Anatomy" by Dana Schwarz, do yourself a favour and read this book.

I went into this book knowing almost nothing about it. I knew that it was a thriller, that centered an autistic, trans boy in rural West Virginia, that was about it. And let me just say, I was not prepared for what was about to come. The violence depicted in this book is so vicious, yet it was hard for me to tear my eyes from the pages. The main character Miles, all of the side characters and the small town itself felt so alive, for better or worse. This was the first book from Andrew Joseph White I've read and now I'm already looking forward to reading his other work.

    Teenage Dirtbags

A book about estranged childhood friends teaming up against all odds: What more could I possibly ask for?! The dialogue and the characters are easily my favourite part of this book. While I really wanted to give some of the characters a hug, others made my blood boil with anger. I audibly gasped at the drama and couldn't help but laugh at the bittersweet accuracy of how people nowadays interact with the queer community vs. how queer people talk amongst each other. The writing feels fresh and exciting, which gives me hope that there will be many more books like this one in the future: Written by queer authors and written for queer readers.

I'm thoroughly impressed by this debut! The story is ambitious and there's great trans representation. I found the characters relatable because(!) they are flawed, stubborn and don't make the best decisions. That's exactly what makes them feel real and raw, which I loved. I had the feeling that danger was lurking around every corner and that the town itself was a character, stalking the misfits like it's prey. And if you've ever felt out of place or like you don't fit in, the story will hit even you harder.

    What Moves the Dead

A beautifully haunting re-imagining "The Fall of the House of Usher's" by Edgar Allen Poe. I loved the eerie gothic atmosphere! I was also a big fan of the main character Alex and their witty remarks, considering the dire situations they frequently found themselves in. Since this book is quite short, there is no room for fluff but I enjoyed this type of tight storytelling alot. This is a great spooky read for rainy autumn days!
