The Resurrectionist A Twisty Gothic Mystery of Dark Scottish History

I loved everything about this story. The setting, the characters, the plot. James grew so close to my heart so quickly and his relationship with Aneurin caught butterflies in my chest. Absolutely recommended to anyone who loves the gritty edges of 18th Century Edinburgh, sprinkled with a good hearted queer romance alongside.

I have such a soft spot for historical queer fiction and this book was certainly not an exception. I loved the dark, muddy atmosphere of 19th century Edinburgh and how the characters (ironically) came to life within it. Speaking of, I adored the main character James and his rogue companion Nye. It was refreshing to follow a main character who stands up for himself and the people he loves. There were some romantic moments were I had to pause reading because they were so simple, yet so full of love and desire. If you enjoyed "Anatomy" by Dana Schwarz, do yourself a favour and read this book.

True Crime, historical fiction, dark academia… what more could you ask for? There’s also the fantastic world buildung that will make this book a joy to read. If you’re looking for an autumn read, look no further. Here it is.
