Meine letzte Rezension Molka von Monika Kim

Eigentlich fand ich dieses Buch ziemlich phänomenal. Vor allem in der Art wie Monika Kim es schafft, die Leser*innen vollkommen in die Hauptcharakterin zu versetzen. Man spürt ihre Gefühle, ihren Angst, ihre Unsicherheit, ihre Verzweiflung. Schon auf Seite 1 kriegt man so ein Kribbeln auf der Haut, mein klitzekleines Problemchen mit Molka ist, dass es für einen Großteil des Buches, auch nur bei diesem Kribbeln bleibt. Das Buch selber ist zwar nicht sonderlich lang, doch nach gut der Hälfte fängt man an sich zu fragen, wann es denn endlich mal richtig zur Sache geht. Ich hatte das Gefühl gut 60% des Buches sind Exposition, bis wir dann endlich zum Inhalt des Klappentextes kommen. Prinzipiell ist das ok, denn ein gutes Buch ist es allemal. Es wird grotesk, absurd, eklig, verrückt und bleibt auch tatsächlich durchgehend interessant, nur die Frage, wann es denn jetzt endlich los geht hat mich beim Lesen ein bisschen aus dem Konzept gebracht. Grundsätzlich hat das Buch jedoch in seinen Aspekten vollkommen meine Erwartungen getroffen und ist deswegen auch trotz des langsamen Anfangs zu empfehlen.

Six of Crows

Six of Crows has a very special place in my heart because it's the book that got me into reading. I quite literally would not be writing this, if it wasn't for Six of Crows. That may be dramatic but I have a love in my heart for this book that is hard to put into words. The story completely envelops you, it pulls you in in the most perfect way. I'm emotionally attached to the characters in a way that isn't reasonable for a person my age. I've reread it a million times, it feels like, and it never gets boring. If I could make every person to read ONE book, it would be this. And believe me I have tried ;)

Ninth House

The athmosphere of Ninth House captured me from the very first page. The way Leigh Bardugo illustrates the Campus of Yale in this book is so detailed an vivid, it really doesn't let you go. Alex Stern as a protagonist is unbelievably interesting and I couldn't help but fall in love with her. The way she interacts with the people around her, both those she likes and doesn't like is… Let's just say I had a lot of fun, following her around New Haven. The book as a whole is a bit discombobulated and I had some trouble at the start but it really wormed its way into my heart.

Far Sector: DC Compact Comics Edition

Vermutlich einer der besten Comics, die ich je gelesen habe. Far Sector ist eine fantastische Space Opera über Liebe, Politik und den Mut das Richtige zu tun. Sci-Fi Legende N.K. Jemisin schreibt hier eine so wunderschöne Geschichte, voller Diversität und Hoffnung, zum Leben erweckt mit atemberaubenden Illustrationen. Eine Empfehlung für sowohl die, die ihre ersten Comic-Erfahrungen sammeln als auch die Veteranen unter uns.

Sirens & Muses

This book left me speechless. It's been like a week and I'm honestly still struggling to put it into words. The four narrators time orbiting each other, their connections and history, but also their different perspectives, were so interesting to read about. The relationship between Louisa and Karina is fast and messy. As the driving force of the story it cuts deep. And while I definitely came here for the lesbians, Roberts second story-arc was also something that stuck with me, which I didn't really see coming. (Middle-aged white men usually just aren't that interesting, sorry.) Antonia Angress really manages to disect the fragile space between art and emotion, while also forcing you to confront the uncomfortable realities of being an artist. I'm definitely gonna be thinking about this book for a long time. It's a top 5 read of the year for me, for sure.

Raven Cycle 1. The Raven Boys

It's been a while since a book has hooked me like this. I'm a chronic series interrupter. I just can never get myself to continue them immediately, but I sped through the Raven Cycle so fast, it felt like the books were melting in my hands. I'm just a sucker for slightly corny y/a novels from the early 2010s. It's probably the nostalgia, but it works. I loved the mystery, even though it's mainly vibes. The character dynamics are amazing, the FOUND FAMILY, the romance(-ISH). Like I. AM. HOOKED. A y/a fantasy staple and total comfort read for autumn.

The Everlasting

This book caught me entirely off guard. I mean I was already hooked, cause I'm a sucker for a good role reversal. Like, I can and will immediately buy a book about a strong female knight, who ACTUALLY looks the part (and isn't just magically strong, yet dainty and frail), and her pathetic, down-on-his-knees, loser boyfriend. But this book was so much more than I expected. It's beyond anything I've ever read. I honestly did not see a thing coming and with every page, the story, which starts out as a neat little package, just unravels more and more and it's seriously addicting. Alix E. Harrow is such an interesting writer and I fear I will now have to buy everything she has ever written.

The Poet Empress

It's only January but The Poet Empress might already be one of my fantasy highlights of 2026. It delivers on all fronts. The magic system is totally unique and something I've never seen before, the politics are thrilling and dramatic, the characters realistic yet complex. It's almost hard to believe that this is a Debut. Yin Wei is an unbelievably interesting protagonist and reading her evolve the more time she spends at court, the more necessary it becomes to scheme was totally gripping. She seemingly always has another trick up her sleeve and one moment you think you've got it all figured out but the next you're ambushed by a turn you never saw coming. The Poet Empress is a biting-your-nails, edge-of-your-seat kind of novel. It's intense and haunting, epic and unpredictable, and certainly a Must-Read for 2026.

Down the Drain

It happens very quickly that celebrity memoirs feel redundant. With seemingly everyone who had 15 minutes of fame 10 years ago writing one as a quick cash grab, it gets hard to tell which ones are worth the time, but if I could ask you to read one celebrity memoir, it would be this one. Her crazy youth between drugs, sex and her complicated family, to adulthood, sudden stardom, motherhood and dating one of the most famous rappers of all time... Julia Fox is only 35 but she has already lived a million lives and more to tell than some people at 70. I could not put it down. You could say that about many books, but this one quite literally pulls you down the drain.

A Tempest of Tea

I already loved the "Sands of Arawiya"-Series, so I was very eager to read more from Hafsah. When I found out she was doing a Vampire Heist á la Six of Crows I knew it was gonna be a guaranteed hit for me and honestly she just proved me right 10 times over. Theres no "but"s or "if"s, this was just great. The world building is unsurprisingly phenomenal (and in the same universe as Sands of Arawiya!) and the Characters are so interesting. Quirky, funny, but with just the right amount of secrets. Arthie is practically Girl-Kaz, which I am SO here for and I just had the absolute best time reading this. Side Note: I feel like this a bit darker than her other series but as a certified lover of all things gothic, dark and paranormal I found it just right.
