Major Barbara is a play written by the renowned playwright George Bernard Shaw. The story revolves around Barbara, a major in the Salvation Army, who is on a mission to save souls and spread the word of God. She believes that poverty is the root of all evil and that the only way to eradicate it is through the power of money. However, her father, a wealthy arms manufacturer, disagrees with her views and refuses to donate money to the Salvation Army.As the play progresses, Barbara's beliefs are put to the test when she meets a group of people who challenge her ideas about poverty, morality, and the role of money in society. Among them is her father's business associate, Andrew Undershaft, who offers to donate a large sum of money to the Salvation Army. Barbara is torn between accepting the money and compromising her principles or sticking to her beliefs and rejecting the money.Through witty dialogue and sharp satire, Shaw explores the themes of morality, religion, capitalism, and the role of the individual in society. Major Barbara is a thought-provoking and entertaining play that challenges the audience's beliefs and values. It is a timeless classic that continues to be relevant in today's world.LADY BRITOMART. Charles Lomax's exertions are much more likely to decrease his income than to increase it. Sarah will have to find at least another ¿¿¿¿800 a year for the next ten years; and even then they will be as poor as church mice. And what about Barbara? I thought Barbara was going to make the most brilliant career of all of you. And what does she do? Joins the Salvation Army; discharges her maid; lives on a pound a week. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
