Monna Vanna is a play written by the Belgian playwright Maurice Maeterlinck. It is a three-act play that tells the story of a woman named Vanna who is forced to make a difficult decision in order to save her city from destruction. The play is set in medieval Italy during a time of war and political turmoil. Vanna is the wife of the governor of the city and is approached by the enemy army's commander, who offers to spare the city if she agrees to spend the night with him. Vanna must decide whether to sacrifice her own honor and dignity for the sake of her city, or to refuse the offer and risk the destruction of the city she loves. The play explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the nature of power. It is considered one of Maeterlinck's most important works and has been adapted for the stage and screen numerous times.1903. Play by the Belgian poet, dramatist, essayist and Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, whose literary career began with the publication of two volumes of poetry. Monna Vanna takes place at the end of the fifteenth century in Pisa and the camp outside the walls with the cast made up of nobles, soldiers, peasants, men and women of the city, etc. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
