The Life of Johnson Volume 1 is a biography written by George Birkbeck Hill about the famous English writer, Samuel Johnson. The book covers Johnson's life from his birth in 1709 to the year 1765. It explores his childhood, education, early struggles as a writer, and his eventual success as a literary figure. The book also delves into Johnson's personal life, including his relationships with family and friends, his struggles with depression, and his religious beliefs. Hill's biography is based on extensive research and includes many primary sources, such as letters and journals written by Johnson and his contemporaries. The Life of Johnson Volume 1 is a comprehensive and engaging account of one of England's most celebrated literary figures. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
