The Moccasin Maker is a novel written by E. Pauline Johnson that explores the life of a young Indigenous woman named Net-no-kwa. Set in the late 1800s, the story follows Net-no-kwa as she navigates the challenges of living in a rapidly changing world. As a skilled moccasin maker, Net-no-kwa is able to support herself and her family, but she also longs for something more. When she meets a wealthy white man named George, she is forced to confront the realities of the racism and prejudice that exist in society. As their relationship develops, Net-no-kwa must decide whether to follow her heart or stay true to her cultural heritage. Along the way, she faces many obstacles and learns valuable lessons about love, identity, and the power of community. The Moccasin Maker is a beautifully written and thought-provoking novel that offers a glimpse into the complexities of Indigenous life in Canada during a tumultuous time in history. It is a far cry from a wigwam to Westminster, from a prairie trail to the Tower Bridge, and London looks a strange place to the Red Indian whose eyes still see the myriad forest trees, even as they gaze across the Strand, and whose feet still feel the clinging moccasin even among the scores of clicking heels that hurry along the thoroughfares of this camping-ground of the paleface. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
