The Maid of the Whispering Hills is a novel by Vingie E. Roe. The story is set in the Appalachian Mountains in the early 1900s and follows the life of a young woman named June Tolliver. June is a strong-willed and independent woman who has grown up in the mountains and knows the land like the back of her hand. She is also known for her beauty and her ability to communicate with animals.June's life takes a dramatic turn when she meets a wealthy businessman named Philip Embury. Despite their differences in social status, the two fall in love and embark on a tumultuous relationship. However, their love is threatened by the presence of a jealous rival, as well as the secrets that June has been keeping from Philip. As the story unfolds, June must navigate the challenges of her relationship with Philip, while also dealing with the dangers of living in the mountains. She must also confront her past and come to terms with the secrets that she has been keeping hidden for so long. The Maid of the Whispering Hills is a classic romance novel that explores themes of love, jealousy, and the power of nature. It is a beautifully written story that transports readers to a time and place that is both rugged and romantic.Picturesque they were, in their fringed buckskin cunningly tanned and beaded, their feathers and their ornaments of elk teeth and claws of the huge, thick-coated bears. At day-dawn they came, having camped for the night a short distance above the fort, to the letter display of their arrival, and they swept down in a flotilla of graceful craft made of the birch bark and light as clouds upon the water. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
