""People of the Whirlpool"" is a novel written by Mabel Osgood Wright that tells the story of a young girl named Wanda who is forced to leave her home in the city and move to a small island in the Chesapeake Bay with her family. The island is home to a community of watermen who make their living by fishing and crabbing. Wanda struggles to adjust to her new life and the unfamiliar ways of the island people, but eventually learns to appreciate their simple way of life and the beauty of the natural world around her. Along the way, she forms close friendships with some of the islanders, including a young boy named Peter and an old woman named Granny. The novel explores themes of family, community, and the importance of preserving the environment. Overall, ""People of the Whirlpool"" is a heartwarming and insightful tale of a young girl's journey of self-discovery in a unique and captivating setting. Thus dismissed, Bradford went out into the light again. He noticed for the first time that his horse and buggy, standing unheeded where he left them, looked strangely out of date, and as he went down the steps, the horse turned his head, and recognizing him, gave a joyful whinny that caused the grooms to grin. He could feel the colour rising to his very eyes, and for a moment he determined to go home without making any further effort to find Sylvia, and he felt grateful that his mother had declined his invitation to come with him to the festival. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
