""Alexandria and Her Schools"" is a historical and philosophical book written by Charles Kingsley. The book explores the intellectual and cultural legacy of the ancient city of Alexandria, Egypt, which was home to some of the most influential schools of thought in the ancient world. Kingsley delves into the history of Alexandria, its founding, and its importance as a center of learning and scholarship. He also discusses the various schools of philosophy and theology that emerged in Alexandria, including the Stoics, the Epicureans, and the Neoplatonists. The book provides a detailed overview of the ideas, beliefs, and practices of these schools, as well as their impact on the wider world of ancient philosophy and religion. Kingsley also examines the lives and works of some of the most famous scholars and thinkers associated with Alexandria, including Philo of Alexandria, Origen, and Hypatia. The book is a fascinating exploration of one of the most important intellectual centers in the ancient world, and it provides valuable insights into the history of philosophy and theology. In the year 331 B.C. one of the greatest intellects whose influence the world has ever felt, saw, with his eagle glance, the unrivalled advantage of the spot which is now Alexandria; and conceived the mighty project of making it the point of union of two, or rather of three worlds. In a new city, named after himself, Europe, Asia, and Africa were to meet and to hold communion. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
